Accounting software in France: which tools ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode recommend

We asked ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, in French, 12 questions that French small businesses, finance teams and accounting firms ask when they choose accounting software: invoicing, the 2026 e-invoicing reform, bank reconciliation, cash forecasting, working with an accountant. Every answer names at least one accounting tool, and one name is in almost all of them.

Pennylane is in 32 answers out of 36

Pennylane is named in 32 of the 36 answers, in all 12 of ChatGPT's, and first in most of them (average position 1.3). Sage follows with 22 answers, then Tiime (19), Indy (18) and Cegid (17). Axonaut, Dext, Sellsy and MyUnisoft come up less often. The questions were written from Pennylane's offer (see the method), which helps it; the order of the others is the more telling result.

Each tool is named for a kind of buyer:

• Indy, Tiime and Axonaut for very small businesses: all-in-one invoicing and accounting, e-invoicing for small companies.
• Cegid, Sage and MyUnisoft for accounting firms: collaboration with clients, automated bookkeeping, shared access with the business owner.
• Dext for collecting receipts and accounting documents.

Banks and cash tools: where Pennylane is missing

Business banks and cash tools are named in 17 answers. Qonto leads (13), ahead of Agicap (5) and Shine (4). This is where Pennylane misses: on the all-in-one question combining invoices, an online business account and cash tracking, Gemini and Google AI Mode answer with Qonto, Indy, Tiime and Shine. On cash forecasting with AI for a finance director, all three AI models name Agicap first.

ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode

The models agree on the leader but less on the rest. Tiime is in 8 of Google AI Mode's answers and 4 of Gemini's; Cegid in 7 of Google AI Mode's and 4 of ChatGPT's. Gemini lists the most names: on the question about e-invoicing for small businesses, it names 9 of the 12 tools tracked.

The sources behind the answers

The answers cite 83 different websites. The software vendors' own sites lead: pennylane.com is used in 18 answers, tiime.fr in 11, indy.fr in 10, sage.com in 7. On the e-invoicing reform, the answers also cite the administration: impots.gouv.fr in 5 answers and entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr in 4.

What this means for B2B software vendors

• Your own pages are the first source. The vendors' sites are the websites cited most. Pages that answer the buyer's question directly (which tool for an accounting firm, which tool for the e-invoicing reform) are what the AI models quote.
• Each tool is filed under a kind of buyer. Small businesses, accounting firms, finance directors: a vendor that wants to be named for another segment has to describe that segment on its site, with its use cases and customers.
• Regulation brings questions, and official sources. On the 2026 e-invoicing reform, the answers mix vendors and government pages. A vendor that explains the reform clearly, with the official dates and rules, stands next to those sources.
• Adjacent tools take the questions at the edge of your offer. Cash forecasting goes to Agicap, the business account to Qonto. The questions at the border of a product are where competitors from the next category win.

Method

12 questions in French, written as French business owners, finance teams and accountants would ask them, from the offer of one of the tools tracked (Pennylane), which favours it. Each question was asked once to ChatGPT (gpt-6, with web search), Gemini (Flash-Lite) and Google AI Mode, from France, on October 18, 2026: 36 answers. We counted the answers naming each of 12 tracked tools (names and common spellings), their position among the tracked names of the answer, and the websites cited.

This is a snapshot: three models, one day and 12 questions. AI answers vary from one session to the next, so a difference of one or two answers between two tools is not significant. Tools we did not track, such as QuickBooks or Freebe, are not counted.
